Legends about Mansa Devi Temple

According to legendary belief, Mansa Devi is considered as the Manas daughter of Shiva. It is said that when Vasuki Nag wanted his sister to do so, Shiva offered her this girl named Mansa.

Mansa Devi is worshiped as a serpent deity. Mansa Devi is also called a poisonous goddess. It is believed that after drinking some poison, Shiva was rescued by Mansa Devi. Halahal also sacrificed his life to protect Mansa. According to other legends, Mansa Goddess was born with the idea of Kashyapa Rishi. According to Brahma Vaivarta Purana, he was a Nagakanya who was a devotee of Lord Shiva and Krishna. He used to recite the Vedas of Shiva and get knowledge of Krishna Mantra.

Mansa Devi Temple opens at 8 in the morning and closes at 5 in the evening. To go to the top of hill in Mansa devi Temple, pilgrims can use ropeway which is at the 1.5 km up from the bottom. Lots of devotees visit here during Navratri festival.

With regard to Mansa Devi, there is a belief that by binding the thread on the branch of the tree, the desires of the devotees are fulfilled. The thread will open when the wish is fulfilled.

Initially, Mansa Devi was considered the goddess of the tribe, but at present, all the people of the Hindu community in India are worshiping Mansa Devi.
